South Island Regional Meeting and Heart Awards
Bellyful held a regional meeting and training day in Christchurch on Saturday 16th February 2019 for our 7 South Island branches.
It was a great opportunity to re-connect with other volunteers and to put faces to names of the volunteers who have recently stepped into leadership roles in the south island branches.
Glenda Martin from Volunteering Canterbury spoke to us about volunteer trends in New Zealand, volunteer leadership and gave some useful ideas on how to have difficult conversations. She reminded us of our obligation that as an organisation has to provide a safe workplace for volunteers.
We had a number of strategic and operational updates from Charlotte, Gina and Wendy, and Karalyn led us in a workshop on story-telling. It would have been good to have more time to delve deeper into the 2020 Vision and Strategy Feedback.
The Canterbury branches kept us fuelled with delicious food.
The Heart Awards were presented by two local elected representatives, Christchurch City Councillor Deon Swiggs and Community Board Representative Alexandra Davids. As a BC, it was a very proud moment to be able to nominate worthy volunteers for their marvellous contributions and to see them receive their award.
It was a really fantastic day. The updates and topics discussed hit the right marks for many of us, and and it was a great opportunity to share ideas, stories and experiences with other branch volunteers who do the same role as they do. Thank you to Bellyful NZ for organising a great day out for us and Anthony Harper for the use of their Christchurch Office.
Regional meetings will be held in Wellington on Saturday 23rd March, Hamilton on Saturday 6th April and in Auckland Saturday 4th May 2019 – let your Branch Coordiantor know if you are keen to attend.
