Our Student Volunteers
It was recently Student Volunteer Week in New Zealand. Bellyful is fortunate to have both high school and university student volunteers throughout New Zealand. Working with them is a great reminder of what fabulous young people there are in this country. Here we highlight two of them.
Young friends Cherry and Shreya volunteer at our Central Auckland branch. Both are from Auckland and are now studying at The University of Auckland. Cherry is working toward her Bachelor of Health Sciences and Shreya is studying Biomedical Science.
Introduced to Bellyful in a high school volunteer group, Cherry decided to continue after finishing high school. She subsequently introduced Shreya.
“In my opinion students make good volunteers as we are able to gain a wider perspective of the situation of different New Zealand families and become aware of various problems, and know that we are part of the solution by helping as many families as we can. Also students make good volunteers as we can carry on to help in the future” says Cherry.
Shreya adds, “I think students make good volunteers because they are at the age where being involved in an organisation that helps other people can change their perspective; it did for me.”
Both young women fit volunteering into their busy study workload by scheduling their time and hope that the meals Bellyful provide will help bring a smile to the faces of those who receive them.”
“Bellyful is great, as there is always a warm and friendly atmosphere,” says Cherry.
